Community Alert: Protect Yourself from Online Scams

We are seeing an increase in reports of online and telephone scams across the UK, with fraudsters using increasingly convincing methods to target members of the public.

Criminals may contact you pretending to be from your bank, the police, government agencies, delivery companies, utility providers, or other trusted organisations. They often create a sense of urgency, claiming there is a problem with your account, suspicious activity, or that immediate action is required.

✅ Never share your PIN, password, online banking details, or one-time passcodes.

✅ Remember that your bank or the police will never ask you to transfer money to a "safe account".

✅ Be cautious of unexpected calls, texts, emails, or social media messages.

✅ Do not click on links or download attachments from unknown sources.

✅ Verify requests independently by contacting the organisation using a trusted phone number or website.

✅ Enable two-factor authentication where available.

✅ Keep your devices and software updated.
